he VLSI Design Laboratory, Dept. Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Patras, was founded in 1986. It has 3 professors and 15 on average PhD students. Its research areas include: design of digital integrated circuits and systems, low power design, concurrent design of hardware and soft-ware for embedded systems, embedded compilers, embedded applications of DSP and communica-tions, safety and security system architectures and CAD tools. The laboratory has won many interna-tional awards.

Two successful spin off companies have been created by researchers of the Laboratory. The researchers of the VLSI Laboratory have published their work in more than 90 refereed scientific journals and in more than 230 of international conferences. The laboratory has teamed up with industry designing and developing numerous vlsi chips i.e for drugs infusion used in various treatments, hearing aids, peg encoders, cryptographic engines etc.

Finally The VLSI Laboratory has been very active in EC-funded programs and has participated to a very large number of EU, national and company funded research, development and educational projects.
